The Sophomore Course is based on the Model Shipways kit, USS Constitution (MS2040). The course was designed for modelers with some ship modeling experience. This course does not deviate from the original design of the kit. However, some optional improvements are offered such as wood substitution, additional details, and parts substitution through simple scratchbuilding. Some hand carving of certain details is also introduced. Overall, this course is the first in the series to introduce the modeler to more advanced techniques.

This portion of the course covers hull construction and hull details only. A separate masting and rigging course is also available which covers the construction of all masts and yardarms, and the attachment of standing and running rigging. Video clips are included in the masting and rigging course to show how certain lines are seized. And we provide a private forum area on our website forum just for Constitution customers so that they can get assistance at any time.
