The Alternate Sophomore Course is based on the Model Shipways kit, Pride of Baltimore (MS2120). Like the Sophomore Course, this course does not deviate from the design of the kit. Although the model is not as complex as the Sophomore Constitution, the course does present challenges with a more complex, single planked hull, many deck details that must be built from scratch, and two masts to rig. This course also introduces the modeler to the making of sails.

The course comes on CD and contains 12 chapters. An optional set of two photo CD's is also available. The first CD contains all of the photos taken for chapters 1 - 6 and the second contains all of the photos taken for chapters 7 - 12.
