The Junior Course is based on the Mamoli kit (MV36), Rattlesnake. However, this course will also work with the Model Shipway's kit (MS2028). This course departs from standard, out of the box construction and introduces the modeler to kitbashing. Extensive modifications are made to the design of the kit. A new set of plans drawn by renowned modeler, Harold Hahn are used to modify the kit making the model more accurate. Extensive scratchbuilding techniques are covered including the carving of the figurhead and stern carvings.

Because this course introduces the modeler to many scratchbuilding techniques, certain power tools are required such as a miniature table saw and power carver. This course is recommended for modelers with experience in building model ships. A substitute wood package is also used and can be purchased from HobbyMill Corp.

The course comes on CD and contains two versions of construction in 9 chapters each. The first version shows how to build the model out of the box (for lesser experienced modelers). The second version is for kitbashing. The course covers hull construction only. A separate Masting and Rigging course is also available with 6 chapters.
