Freshman Course Duke William
This Freshman Course is based on the Kammerlander kit, Duke William. This course consists of 7 chapters and covers the complete construction of the kit including masting and rigging. The course also covers attaching and rigging the optional sails for this kit. It is ideal for modelers with little or no model shipbuilding experience.
No modifications are made to the design of the kit. The hull planking consists of one layer laid across a fully framed hull. The design of this kit is rather unique. The hull is formed over a plaster mold (included in the kit) by bending thin strips of wood over the form. After the hull is framed, the planking is installed and then the model is removed from the plaster mold.
With this course, the modeler will learn the basics of planking the hull of the model ship, how to build deck furniture, masts and spars, and how to do simple rigging including the addition of sails. The course teaches many of the basics of model shipbuidling and is a stepping stone to more complex models.
The course comes on CD. An optional photo CD is available containing all photos taken when the model was built.
The kit must be purchased separately and is available from GK Modellbau.
