Freshman Course HMS Pegasus/HMS Fly
This Freshman Course is based on the Swan Class ship by Amati, HMS Pegasus but will also work with the Amati kit HMS Fly. This course consists of 12 chapters and covers the complete construction of the kit including masting and rigging. It is ideal for modelers with some model shipbuilding experience.
No modifications are made to the design of the kit. However, some enhancements are shown as options. The hull planking consists of two layers. This course covers how to apply each of these layers. Copper plating of the hull is also covered.
With this course, the modeler will learn the basics of double planking the hull of the model ship, how to build deck furniture, masts and spars, and how to do three mased rigging. The course teaches many of the basics of model shipbuidling and is a stepping stone to more complex models.
This course is currently under development. Chapters 1 - 3 are currently available. Chapters 4 - 6 are expected to be released at the end of July 2010. Chapters 7 - 9 are expected to be released at the end of October 2010. Chapters 10 - 12 are exptected to be released at the end of January 2011. The course will have 2 optional photo CD's. The first will contain all photos taken for chaptes 1 - 6. The second will contain all photos taken for chapters 7 - 12. Here is a breakdown of the chapters and what they will cover:

- Chapter 2 - Upper deck with deck details - Completed
- Chapter 3 - First layer of hull planking - Completed
- Chapter 4 - Second layer of planking - Completed
- Chapter 5 - Copper Plating
- Chapter 6 - Cannons, forecastle and quarterdeck
- Chapter 7 - Masts and spars
- Chapter 8 - Standing rigging
- Chapter 9 - Running rigging
- Chapter 10 - Final standing rigging
- Chapter 11 - Final running rigging
- Chapter 12 - Ship's boats, final details
When you purchase this course, all completed chapters will be sent immediately. Remaining chapters will be sent automatically once completed (see expected schedule above). The first photo CD will be sent once chapter 6 has been completed, and the final photo CD will be sent once chapter 12 has been completed.
